Carlos Gracida, who taught Princes William and Harry to play polo, was killed in a freak accident in Florida on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014, in which his horse fell on top of him after the animal was accidentally hit in the head with a mallet during a match.

Gracida held a 10-goal handicap for 15 years and won the British Open Polo Championship ten times and the U.S. Open Polo Championship nine times. He is also the only player in polo history to have won the Grand Slam of Polo (Argentine Open, British Open and U.S. Open in a calendar year) which he accomplished three times, in 1988, 1989 and 1994.
