Instituted in 1894 as a Challenge Cup for the Warwickshire Polo Club, the Warwickshire Cup was dormant from 1914 until 1932, when Mr. Frank Hargreaves – the winning team’s captain in 1913 – presented the cup to the Roehampton Club to be played in a match between Roehampton and Hurlingham, or a visiting team from overseas – it was then known as the Hargreaves Cup. Competition for the Warwickshire Cup was resurrected in 1959, as the second leg of the British Triple Crown.
